It's coming...

Tdp2

But I need your help. I'm running into a problem with TodoPaper 2. I am having a terrible time finishing up the last few UI touches. In particular, I'm trying to figure out which icons to use in the toolbar. I love the simplicity that TaskPaper takes, "+", "P", "@", but I also am fond of simple grayscale iconography.

Do any of you have any suggestions, or perhaps know a freelance designer I could get in touch with to help push this last bit along?

Also, I'll be posting some more screenshots over the next few weeks to help keep everybody up-to-date with the progress of the app UI. Feel free to send me your comments and suggestions too.

I like the simple look. Although icons might give it a more flashy appearance. I think this minimalist look suits it just fine. It puts a lot of focus on the list and keeps the UI out of the way. I like the new look. To be honest i have given up hope on the project. But this looks like such a huge improvement on the original.

Mat, I understand where hope was lost. I'm hoping to reassure everybody that TodoPaper 2 is going to be a vast improvement over 1.x. And, I hope to continue to push this app into the superstar it yearns to be.

Minimalism is what I'm going for. I do think the textual icons are ok, but I'd really like them to be cleaner. If you notice that in this screenshot the menu is hidden away. While it's a setting to hide or show the menu, I really hope to push for more focus by keeping it hidden. Like I said, "less clutter. more focus."

If you have any suggestions for improvement, feel free to sent them my way.

Thanks!

Hi Jordan,

Good to see that it's coming together...

The textual icons look great to me.

Jordan,
Nice to see that 2.0 is coming along. I like the idea of hierarchical task management, although I am curious as to how you will manage to do that and keep TaskPaper compatibility.

As far as the icons, I really like the menus for the discoverability of features.

I notice you mention synching. I have managed to get syncing via dropbox to work fairly well, and have experimented synching via simplenote, but haven't got that working to my satisfaction yet.

Good luck with the new version.

Fantastic news, Jordan!

Will you have optional indentation methodology like TaskPaper? I prefer the handle of a subtopic – visible or invisible – to be aligned with the first character of the text of the supertopic above it.

Also, will you have the ability to "focus" or "hoist" a project like TaskPaper?

Thanks.

Matt

How will printing work in 2.0? Right now the font size and colors etc don't seem to carry over to the printed version. Will that be changed? Can't wait for release :D

Hi Jordan,

I'm eagerly waiting for the 2.0 version and even more SimpleText.ws sync to come along.
Unfortunately, a purchase has to wait until then. I hope you get both finished soon.
As for indentation, I agree with Matt. I also prefer subtopics not to have additional indentation like in the picture above. Instead, the dashes should be aligned with the first letter above them.

Regards,
Alex

Judson:
Printing will use the style of the text as it appears in the editor (font-size and colors, not background, will be used)

I hear you. SimpleText.ws will probably not be included in 2.0. But, 2.0 has a nice plugin system that can be used to extend the editor. Integration with SimpleText should be relatively straightforward after release.

Check out my latest post. I've modified the way 2.0 handles alignment.

So ... I just got todopaper, and it is awesome. Now my issue is I can't right click the document at all because it bugs out with an error message - it doesn't crash though, just has an error message in the background, saving still works, things still work, just kind of buggy.

After using the app for a bit, I start to google around and I find out there's a version 2.0. Is there a time frame for this 2.0 version to be released? I'm ready to use a fully working version of this app.

I was about to ask the same on google plus, but I see you're not active there so decided to delete my comment.

Other than that, great job on the app. It's definitely useful. It's nice enough to get me to switch from using onenote as my todo list ... except for that consta-bug which makes me second guess using it. But I'm sure mileage just varies; might be working fine for everyone else.

Hi Oli,

No, TP2 is not dead. It has been in private beta for a while and is getting very close to a public release. Feel free to email me if you'd like more information.

I'm using Taskpaper on Mac and iOS and are having problems with CRLF from ToDoPaper setting in CRFL windows style, which makes Taskpaper iOS crash. The problem seems to me to be in Taslpaper for iOS, but on their blog they point at Todopaper.. Telling that theres coming a version that should eliminate the problem. That would be very welcome. ANy comments from your side ?
